Emilia Clarke, the Mother of Dragons herself, personally encouraged Great British Bake Off finalist Laura Adlington. “I think she called me a ‘baking queen.'”
Laura Edlington may not have won the latest season of The Great British Bake Off (congratulations to Peter Sawkins), but she made it into the top three, and she got something the other contestants didn’t get: a personal message from Emilia Clarke, the Mother of Dragons herself.
Edlinton shared this news on the after-show The Great British Bake Off: An Extra Slice. “Emilia Clarke, mother of Dragons from Game of Thrones, sent me a message,” Edlington said. “It just said, ‘Laura, me and my friends love you. Thanks for brightening up our lockdown. We hope you win’.”
As it ends up, Edlinton got some nasty comments on social media after she advanced over Hermine, another contestant some fans thought was more deserving. That’s not at all in keeping with the kindness-first style of the show, so it’s good to hear that Clarke was there to tip the scales. “I think she called me a ‘baking queen’,” Edlington added. “So my life is now complete, quite frankly. Friends with Matt Lucas and Emilia Clarke. Doesn’t get better than that, does it?”
If it does, we haven’t heard about it. You can watch the entirety of The Great British Bake Off season 11 (called The Great British Baking Show in the U.S. and Canada, for some reason) now on Netflix.
