Game of Thrones, Stranger Things stars unite to play World of Warcraft

The stars of Game of Thrones, Stranger Things, The Last Kingdom, Community and much more unite for an epic round of World of Warcraft!

What do Uhtred son of Uhtred, the star of Stranger Things, a famous MMA fighter and the Lord of the Seven Kingdoms all have in common? All of them, plus several more nerdy celebrities, are all getting together to play World of Warcraft, a campaign that kicked off under the hashtag #SoundTheHorn.

Why is all called that? Because all of the celebrities involved posted little videos of themselves extremely WoW-looking horns, calling on their friends to join the horde and return to Azeroth.

So far as I can tell, the videos started with Finn Wolfhard, star of Stranger Things and the IT movies:

The message wound its way through a lot of other people, including pro wrestler Ronda Rousey and Community star Danny Pudi, before getting to Kristian Nairn, who played Hodor on Game of Thrones.

And of course, who would Nairn call but his “friend from work” Isaac Hempstead Wright, who played Three-Eyed Raven, Lord of the Seven Kingdoms, and guy-who-rode-on-Nairn’s-back-for-five-years Bran Stark?

I think Wright is smashing rutabagas when he gets the call from Nairn? I’m not going to judge.

Anyway, Wright decides to turn his horn several hundreds years into the past and call Alexander Dreymon, who plays Uhtred son of Uhtred on Netflix’s hit show The Last Kingdom.

“Fantasy heroes UNITE!!!” Technically, The Last Kingdom is history, not fantasy, but potato-potatoe.

So far as I can tell, this is where the videos stop…for now. Dreymon said he wants to invite a few of his friends, so I’d expect more calls to adventure coming on the line.

And what exactly is all of this for? Wright’s video mentions that this is an #ad (although curiously, none of the other videos seem to). I’m betting that Activision Blizzard, the company behind World of Warcraft — a massively multiplayer online game that has been around since 2004, yeesh — put this together to drum up some hype for the game! Maybe there’s a new update coming? Or even a sequel?

In any case, Wright has involved with these kind of public gaming stunts below, like when he played Apex Legends for EA.

Game on.
