Since the first half of the final season of Vikings came to an end in February, fans have wondered when we would see the conclusion to the epic saga of Bjorn Ironside, Ivar the Boneless and all the rest.
Well, now we know: the final episodes will drop December 30. Except, in a twist fit for the series itself, they won’t drop on History, at least not at first. All 10 of the final episodes will be available on Amazon Prime Video on December 30, and then air weekly on History sometime in 2021.
While you absorb that news, check out a brand spanking new trailer with all your favorite warriors. Skoal!
First of all, is that a freaking dragon at 1:54 coming out of the sea to devour Ubbe’s ship? That has to be a dream sequence or something…right?
Moving past that, things are not looking good for Bjorn and his allies, which seemingly include King Harald (Peter Franzén), a character we thought perished alongside Bjorn. It also appears we will see the return of King Aethelstan, judging by the English soldiers in the trailer.
“Prepare to be astonished, and for many surprises along the way,” said Vikings creator and sole writer Michael Hirst. “And if you have tears to shed, then also be prepared to shed them.”
There are few surprises in the trailer; we always knew a series like Vikings would end in blood. The real shock is that the final season is dropping in its entirety on Amazon Prime Video before History airs the season premiere. And keep in mind that Netflix, not History, is making the spinoff show Vikings: Valhalla. Maybe History couldn’t afford the rising costs?
But whether it’s airing on History, Amazon or elsewhere, the most important question remains…where the hell is Floki? Come December, hopefully we find out.
