Doctor Who: Mandip Gill talks Yaz-and-Doctor romance rumors

Doctor Who shippers are putting Yaz and the Doctor together. Is this ship really sailing? Mandip Gill, who plays Yaz, weighs in.

Doctor Who has made quite a bit of buzz recently thanks to its upcoming holiday special airing on New Year’s Day. Between John Barrowman’s return as Captain Jack Harkness, the new-and-improved Daleks, and the news that Tosin Cole (Ryan) and Bradley Walsh (Graham) will be leaving the series, there’s a lot going on.

After the Doctor Who holiday special, the next season will leave the Thirteenth Doctor (Jodie Whittaker) and Yasmin Khan (Mandip Gill) as the only two characters traveling around the universe in the TARDIS, assuming the special doesn’t immediately bring in someone new. That has some fans shipping the Doctor and Yasmin more than ever before. Their ship name? Thasmin.

Gill spoke to SFX about a potential romance between these two characters. She doesn’t confirm that the ship is sailing, but she didn’t deny it either:

"Me and the Doctor? I love it. The fan art is just out there. It’s good, innit? You want a character and a storyline – even though that storyline wasn’t there – you want people to be talking about it.I don’t want it to just stay on-screen, I want people to relate to it or have seen something in our two characters that they think could go on a different journey.Sot to me, I’m here for it."

Showrunner Chris Chibnall, if you’re reading this, we’re all humbly requesting a “Thasmin” love story. Please?

As for the fan art Gill was referring to? I did a dive into the internet and found some amazing pieces your viewing pleasure. You check some of it out on Tumblr and Pinterest! Beyond that, it’s full speed ahead toward “Revolution of the Dalaks” on New Year’s Day!

dark. Next. Rumor: Matt Smith as Daemon Targaryen in Game of Thrones prequel?
