Watch the official trailer for American Gods season 3
By Dan Selcke
Blythe Danner, Julia Sweeney, Marilyn Manson, Dominique Jackson, Iwan Rheon on more come out to play in the trailer for American Gods season 3.
I’ll say this for American Gods on Starz: it’s persevered. We’re talking about a multi-season-long show adapted from a relatively short, much beloved novel by Neil Gaiman. It’s suffered through cast turnover, replacements, and showrunners coming and going, but it’s here, and it has a third season coming out early next year.
And the trailer makes it look pretty interesting, at the least. Ian McShane and Ricky Whittle return as Mr. Wednesday and Shadow Moon, the father-son/god-demigod team mounting a war on behalf of of the old gods against the new, including Mr. World (the ever-creepy Crispin Glover) and Technical Boy (Bruce Langley, who’s stuck in there even as other godly actors like Gillian Anderson and Kristin Chenoweth have left).
But the real story here are all the new guest stars. See how many you can spot:
Off the top of my head, I spy Blythe Danner as the goddess Demeter; Saturday Night Live alum Julia Sweeney as Ann-Marie Hinzelmann, a bigwig in the sleepy town of Lakeside where Shadow hides out for a while; Marilyn Manson as the lead singer of the band Blood Death; Pose star Dominique Jackson as Mr. World’s counterpart Ms. World; and Game of Thrones alum Iwan Rheon (Ramsay Bolton) as a leprechaun.
Whoever’s does casting for the show has a pretty impressive contacts list.
American Gods season 3 debuts on Starz on Sunday, January 10!
