Hawkeye starts shooting, with first look at Hailee Steinfeld as Kate Bishop
Marvel is giving Hawkeye his very own series, which comes with a whole new cast full of Marvel comics heroes and villains.
Production on many of Marvel’s Disney+ series stalled this year thanks to the COVID-19 pandemic, but things are ramping up again. Not only have series like The Falcon and the Winter Soldier and WandaVision moved closer to finally arriving on the platform, but Marvel’s Hawkeye series has finally started filming as well.
Star Jeremy Renner shared a behind-the-scenes photo this week, suggesting production on the show is underway…and calling for Kate Bishop.
In Marvel comics lore, Kate Bishop takes up Clint Barton’s bow and arrow and becomes the “new Hawkeye” of the Avengers team, which appears to be the storyline the Disney+ show is following for this show. And although there were rumors that Hailee Steinfeld would portray the character in the upcoming series, fans haven’t gotten official confirmation…
…until now. These leaked photos of Steinfeld carrying a bow and arrow on set suggest the rumors were accurate after all.
We can’t wait to see what the newest Marvel star brings to the MCU — even if she and Clint do have to take the subway to Avengers team meetings.
Alongside filming news, Hawkeye also announced several new cast members this week, including Florence Pugh, Vera Farmiga, Fra Fee, Tony Dalton, Alaqua Cox and Zahn McClarnon. Pugh will be reprising her role as Yelena Belova from Black Widow. The rest of the newcomers will take on the roles of various Marvel comics characters, including Kazimierz Kazimierczak (Fee), Jack Duquesne (Dalton) and Maya Lopez (Cox). Farmiga will play Kate’s mother, Eleanor Bishop, and McClarnon will play William Lopez, who is most likely Maya’s father.
Hawkeye hasn’t been given a release date just yet, but the series is expected to arrive during the latter half of 2021.
