Yep, Alfred Molina returns as Doc Ock for Spider-Man 3

The next Tom Holland Spider-Man movie will be packed villains from the franchise’s past. It’s looking more likely that older Spider-Men will show up, too…

Welp, the rumors were true: Alfred Molina, who played villain Doctor Octopus in 2004’s Spider-Man 2, will return to battle Tom Holland in Spider-Man 3, per The Hollywood Reporter.

Combined with what else we know, this movie is really starting to come into focus. It’s the sequel to Spider-Man: Homecoming and Far From Home, again starring Tom Holland as your friendly neighborhood web-slinger. We also know that Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) will play a big role, basically acting as Peter Parker’s father figure now that Tony Stark has died.

And when Doctor Strange is around, you can bet that you’re going to be hopping into some alternate dimensions. That could explain why all these villains from past Spider-Man cycles are showing up. And it’s not just Molina’s Doc Ock, who fought Spider-Man back when he was played by Tobey Maguire. Jamie Foxx, who played the villain Electro opposite Andrew Garfield’s Spider-Man in 2014’s The Amazing Spider-Man 2, is also coming back.

And if the old villains are coming back, are the old Spider-Man returning, as well? We’ve heard for a while that Maguire and Garfield will be part of the new movie, and with news like this, it’s seeming more likely than ever.

Basically, it looks like Spider-Man 3 is turning into a live-action version of 2018’s Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, and we’re okay with that.
