A True Blood reboot is coming to HBO

HBO is in the early stages of rebooting its vampire show True Blood, which ended in 2014. Yay or nay?

True Blood was a trashy-but-fun vampire series that ran on HBO for seven seasons, including five good ones. Anna Paquin played Sookie Stackhouse, a telepathic waitress who gets mixed up in the world of vampires after a new synthetic blood product (called “Tru Blood,” obviously) allowed them to come out of hiding and try to integrate themselves into society. Alexander Skarsgård and Joe Manganiello were also part of the cast and went on to do pretty well for themselves.

The show only ended six years ago, after two panned seasons made without the guidance of original creator Alan Ball, but according to Variety, a reboot is in “early development.”

The new show will be written and executive produced by Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa and Jami O’Brien, which could bode well. Aguirre-Sacasa is behind both Riverdale and Chilling Adventures Of Sabrina, two shows that know how to walk the line between enjoyable campy and over-the-top cringe. And O’Brien has already produced a vampire show in the form of NOS4A2 (say it out loud), in addition to being a writer on Flesh And Bone and Fear The Walking Dead.

All that said…a True Blood revival? Now? I dunno if the original show moved the needle that much that it demands to be brought back, especially this soon. What do you think?
