Reylo was the number one ship on Tumblr in 2020

2020 is almost over, and Tumblr has released its 2020 Year In Review, including a list of the most popular ships! Who made it into this elite club?

Climb aboard, everyone! It’s time to talk about the top ships of 2020, and I don’t mean boats with billowing sails. Instead, I’m referring to fictional romantic pairings of the kind written about on fanfiction sites like Archive of our Own!

We all have our favorite ship, the couple that keeps us on the edge of our seat with will-they-won’t-they tension, a pairing so cute and awe-inspiring that you stay up to read fanfiction about them until your eyes water.

Without a doubt, Tumblr is the best website to find awesome fan-made content related to your chosen couple. Whether you’re looking for fanfiction that will make you grin until your face hurts or fan-art to use as your phone screen background, Tumblr is a great place to explore fandom culture.

2020 is finally and mercifully coming to an end, and Tumblr has released their 2020 Year In Review, which you can check out here. Included is a list of the most popular ships on the blogging site. Which lovers made it into the top 10?

Coming in at #1 is Reylo: Rey and Kylo Ren from the Star Wars film series. As detailed by Insider, this is a pretty controversial ship. Rey and Kylo Ren have a complex relationship that at times verges on abusive. In Star Wars, Kylo Ren attempts to manipulate Rey several times. On the other hand, they have an intense connection through the Force that both helps and hinder them in various situations. Some people really love the idea of Reylo and others really don’t like it.

I will admit that I’ve read my fair share of Reylo fanfiction. What can I say, it’s a guilty pleasure!

Of note is that, apart from Reylo, every ship in the top 10 is a queer relationship, from Geralt and Jaskier from The Witcher to Kara Danvers and Lena Luther in Supergirl. That’s fairly standard for fans into shipping, but there was no beating Reylo to the top spot, even though the Star Wars sequel trilogy is a year gone.
