Henry Cavill sidelined after getting injured on The Witcher set

The Witcher star Henry Cavill has been injured on the set of The Witcher, forcing the production to get creative while he recovers.

The Witcher is one of the biggest hits on Netflix, with the first season having been watched by some 76 million households. That’s why the streamer has pushed through several difficulties with the second season, which was already delayed when new cast member and Game of Thrones veteran Kristofer Hivju contracted COVID-19 earlier this year. Now, according to The Sun, the production faces another problem: star Henry Cavill (Geralt of Rivia) has been injured.

Details are scarce, but apparently Cavill injured his leg while on an “assault course,” working 20 feet in the air while wearing a safety harness. “He just suddenly pulled up and was clearly in a lot of pain,” said a source. “It wasn’t clear if an object had hit his leg or it was some sort of hamstring or muscle injury.”

Happily, the injury wasn’t serious, with doctors telling Cavill to rest a while before he’s back on his feet in heavy armor shooting sword-fights. He’ll be sidelined for a bit, but the show is shooting other stuff while he recovers, and it was scheduled to go on holiday break soon anyway, as will a lot of shows.

So this too shall pass, and Netflix will get The Witcher season 2 out to us somehow, some way, probably in 2021. Meanwhile, to keep spirits up, the show will be engaging in “the 6 days of Witchmas,” which involves giving fans “gifts” every day starting on December 16 and ending December 21.

What will the gifts be? Looks behind the scenes, perhaps? Jaskier actor Joey Batey debuting a new song? Stay tuned.
