Pedro Pascal talks wearing that helmet all the time on The Mandalorian

The latest episode of The Mandalorian gave us a rare glimpse underneath the main character’s helmet. What’s it like being the star of a huge show where you can’t show your face?

Pedro Pascal is having a moment. He plays the lead character in The Mandalorian, one of the buzziest shows’ on right now, and he plays villain Max Lord in Wonder Woman 1984, out on Christmas Day. His career is skyrocketing.

Although granted, most of the time on The Mandalorian he has to wear a helmet that completely obscures his face, but clearly casting directors have been impressed anyway. At least he got to remove it in the latest episode, “The Believer,” and even got a nickname courtesy of a skeezy Imperial officer: Brown Eyes.

“Brown Eyes, man. I love it,” Pascal told interviewer Jake Hamilton. He also gave fans some insight into what it’s like to work with a big covering over your face.

“There isn’t a lot you can see through that helmet,” Pascal said. “It’s tinted and your breath fogs it up pretty quickly.”

"But everything that I get to look through in terms of that lens is something, whether it’s Amy Sedaris in that wig and the ant creature that she’s playing cards with, and of course The Child is probably one of the best acting partners I’ve ever had."

I assume Pascal’s helmet doesn’t have the fancy heads-up display that Din Djarin has when we see his point of view.

Although talking about Din’s helmet brings up an important point: did you all notice that he had a mustache when he took off his helmet in the latest episode? He didn’t have that the last time he took it off in the season 1 finale:

Din Djarin belongs to a Mandalorian sect that believes his face should never be shown to anyone, but I guess he still gets in there to shave once in a while. And it looked like he shaved carefully enough before “The Believer” to preserve his mustache even as the bits connecting it to the rest of his scraggly beard are gone.

Maybe Mando harbors a secret wish to show off his facial hair in public. That’s a season 3 arc waiting to happen.

The season 2 finale of The Mandalorian airs this Friday on Disney+!
