In addition to all the other Walking Dead shows on the way, TWD boss Scott Gimple is also working on “a comedic take on the world.” What would that even look like…?

The Walking Dead isn’t a show known for its big laughs, but TWD over-boss Scott M. Gimple revealed during the The Walking Dead Holiday Special that we might be getting a zombie-themed comedy. “We’re working on something with one of the great Walking Dead villains of all time, and we’re working on a straight Walking Dead comedy right now,” he said. “We’re not making fun of our world, but it’s more of a comedic take on the world.”

What exactly does a comedy take on this world look like? Will it focus on a group of people in a comedy club when the apocalypse hit? Or maybe it’s a standard group of survivors trying to live their lives but the tone is funnier than usual and there are fewer horrible deaths that bring down the mood? I’m hoping the creative team has something interesting up their sleeve.

I know Gimple says they’re not making fun of this world, but it could be fun to send up some of the ridiculous stuff that happens. For example, how is the gas they find still useful after so many years? And where are they finding all their ammo?

Gimple also provided some updates about the untitled Rick Grimes movies, which we’ve all been patiently waiting for:

"Two years ago, almost to the day, I was in the wilds of England with Mr. Andy Lincoln working on the movie. And because we work in television, we thought we would be working on the second one right now. Movies take a long time, but it’ll be worth the wait. It is moving forward. The COVID time kind of slowed things down anyways, but we’re using that time to go back to the lab and make it as great as possible. I know that doesn’t give you much…but it’s happening."

It’s indeed true that the pandemic has slowed down a lot of these efforts, but they’re still on the way. And there are quite a lot of them! In addition to the Rick movies and whatever this comedy show is, we’ve also got Fear the Walking DeadThe Walking Dead: World Beyond, the upcoming Tales of The Walking Dead, and a spinoff about Carol and Daryl.

And of course, we can’t forget that new episodes of The Walking Dead season 10 beginning to air in February of next year. Everything’s coming up zombies!
