The Boys showrunner reveals Homelander’s son is more powerful than him

Homelander is an unstoppable psychopath on The Boys. Can anyone stand up to him? With season 3 on the way, only one character may have what it takes.
The Boys had an epic second season that really managed to raise the show’s profile. It ended with homicidal superhero Homelander (Antony Starr) losing the mother of his child, Becca (Shantel VanSanten), and his girlfriend Stormfront (Aya Cash). He also had to surrender his son Ryan (Cameron Crovetti) over to Billy Butcher (Karl Urban) or else be exposed to the world as the psychopath he is and lose the adoration of the public, something his massive ego can’t abide.
Interestingly, showrunner Eric Kripke revealed to TV Guide that Stormfront isn’t actually dead. The last we saw of her, she was blubbering out German as she lay burnt to a crisp with no legs, Ryan having blasted her with his own super-powered laser eye beams. “I’m not going to say one way or another, but I will confirm that she is not dead and that she is now officially Stumpfront,” Kripke said, with typically morbid humor. “She’s just this kind of living torso. She cannot regenerate. The strength of Ryan’s lasers — which were surprisingly powerful — are way more powerful than even Homelander’s when Ryan gets angry enough.”
Ryan being “way more powerful” than Homelander could be a game-changer, because Homelander is easily the most powerful superhero we’ve met on the show so far, and also the most unstable, which makes him ludicrously dangerous. Ryan might be able to stop his dad from doing harm…or he could end up even worse, which is a frightening thought.
Another check on Homelander is Queen Maeve (Dominique McElligott), one of his fellow superheroes who’s decided to take a home active role in curbing his worst impulses. “I think [Maeve]’s more aware than most how dangerous he is and knows that he is ultimately a ticking time bomb,” Kripke said. “So when you come in on Season 3, you find people feeling probably a little too comfortable because they scored a win and Homelander seems under control. She’s one of the only [members of The Seven] who is feeling pretty edgy about what she believes is coming around the corner, and spoilers, she turns out to be right.”
So Homelander will do something awful in The Boys season 3; no surprises there. We just hope that Ryan, Maeve and anyone else who might be able to stop him rising to the challenge.
