The Mandalorian saved the best for last as the season 2 finale treated us to big reveals, setups for future stories, and nods to older Star Wars films.
The season 2 finale of The Mandalorian had some of the best moments of the series to date! “Chapter 16: The Rescue” involves Din Djarin’s plan to infiltrate Moff Gideon’s (Giancarlo Esposito) light cruiser to save Grogu. He recruits Bo-Katan Kryze (Katee Sackoff) and her companion, Koska Reeves (Sasha Banks), and gets some help from unexpected fan favorites along the way.
The finale is full of surprises, heart-pounding action, and plentiful Easter eggs for the observant fan. From callbacks to obscure references, here are five things you may have missed in The Mandalorian season 2 finale!
The bacta tank
After taking Dr. Pershing from the Lambda shuttle, Mando and Boba Fett seek out Bo-Katan and Koska Reeves. Knowing that Bo-Katan has beef with Moff Gideon, he figures that it would be good to recruit her for this mission. He probably didn’t expect Boba to start a fight with Koska, though.
To be fair, Bo-Katan did start it. Before Boba threatens Kryze, he and Koska exchange some heated words, with Koska telling Boba that he’ll be “talking through the window of a bacta tank” if he doesn’t stand down.
This is a callback to Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back. The first time we see a bacta tank is after a Wampa attacks Luke. He is terribly wounded in the encounter and needs to recover in the tank. Koska must feel pretty confident in her abilities to threaten Boba Fett like that. And she does hold her hold own against him during their fight.
This was a nice little callback, especially since it referenced everyone’s favorite Jedi master, who we will talk about in a bit.
