No, Lincoln wasn’t entirely serious when he said this, but you know there’s gotta be a kernel of real regret in there somewhere.
Over the weekend, Andrew Lincoln got together with some of his former Walking Dead costars — including Lauren Cohan, Danai Gurira, Lennie James, Sonequa Martin-Green, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Norman Reedus and Christian Serratos — for a virtual reunion to raise money for the Georgia Senate Victory Fund, The Walking Dead having filmed in the state for many years. None other than Yvette Nicole Brown served as host.
During the event, Andrew Lincoln looked back on his time working in Georgia, which he made a home away from home (Lincoln is actually British, as hard as that can be to take in for folk who have only ever seen him in The Walking Dead). “I didn’t know what the South was,” he said. “I’d never been to the South. And then I went to Georgia, and I fell in love with this extraordinary city, Atlanta. Living and working in the South was extraordinary. There’s a sort of English attitude about the South – they’re sort of quite patronizing at dinner parties. I said, ‘This the most advanced, civilized, extraordinarily progressive place I’ve ever been in my life’, and that was 12 years ago.”
In fact, Lincoln’s 10-year-old son Arthur loves Georgia so much that he doesn’t want Lincoln taking any job unless it’s there. And that’s kind of ironic, since Lincoln originally left The Walking Dead in part to spend more time with his family. He joked about his regrets on the call: “I came back home for the kids, and now they’re sick of me, and I wish I’d never left. It’s bullshit! It was a terrible decision! ”
Of course, it’s only a matter of time before Andrew Lincoln returns to the world of the undead as the lead in a series of Rick Grimes movies, although we don’t know exactly when that will happen. I’m anxious to see Rick back in action. He’s truly the heart of The Walking Dead, so let’s get these movies done fast!
