Game of Thrones star Sophie Turner wore a mask while giving birth to her daughter, and she has words for those who think they are exempt.
The year is almost over, and the coronavirus pandemic is still ongoing. Life has changed pretty drastically for people all around the world in the last year, and it’s been difficult for people to adjust. A lot of folks are living a new normal: more people are working from home, kids are attending school online, and everyone is encouraged to practice social distancing and wear a mask when out in public.
For some strange reason, there are people who think that they are exempt from these precautions, even though COVID-19 has killed more than 1.5 million people worldwide. I recently moved to New York City, where 24,613 have perished due to coronavirus, and I’ve seen so many people walking around Times Square without a mask on, as well as huge gatherings of unmasked Hasidic Jews wandering around Brooklyn on Friday nights. In a time when so many are desperate to return to ordinary life, these selfish acts do not go unnoticed.
Since the pandemic started, celebrities have been using their platforms to encourage mask-wearing and social distancing, including Game of Thrones star Sophie Turner (Sansa Stark). Turner is frequently hilarious on social media, but she is also a champion of social justice issues and supports causes like the Black Lives Matter movement.
Sophie Turner recently welcomed her first child with her husband Joe Jonas, a baby girl named Willa who was born in July. Aiming her ire at those who don’t wear masks in public, Turner posted an Instagram Story where she revealed that she even wore a mask while she was giving birth to her daughter!
“If I can wear a mask while I give birth, you can wear a mask at Walmart.” says it all. She closes the video with her signature tagline, “And that’s the tea.”
It’s really not that difficult of a concept to grasp, folks! Mask wearing has been proven to prevent the spread of coronavirus, and keeping people safe should be a priority even if you don’t personally know them. People all around the world have been impacted by this virus and many have lost family members to it. Wearing a mask takes so little effort that I can hardly imagine how one justifies not doing so, especially when it can save lives.
In conclusion, everyone should listen to the Queen in the North and wear a mask already!
