The Star Trek movies have been in the wilderness for a while, but Chris Pine (Captain Kirk) still has hope. “It deserves to have a future.”

If you’re one of those fans who spends time hoping and wishing for another Chris Pine Star Trek film, you’re not alone. Chris Pine does too.

Speaking to Comicbook.com, the actor talked about his fondness of the series and his desire to return to Captain Kirk in the ‘Kelvin Timeline’. Rumors have been flying for a while that Quentin Tarantino might direct an (R-rated) Star Trek movie, although they’re so scattershot it’s hard to tell if it’ll ever actually happen. There’s also a Trek movie from Fargo and Legion showrunner Noah Hawley that may or may not come to fruition.

Basically, the Star Trek movies are a mess right now and no one knows what’s happening, and that includes Pine. “I haven’t ,” he said. “In terms of the Star Trek of it all, I wish I knew anything. I’m quite literally one of the last people ever to find out. I haven’t read that script. I don’t know where it is in development. I haven’t read the Noah Hawley script. I have no idea what’s happening in Star Trek land… but I love the character. I love the universe. I love my friends in it.”

"To have a Quentin take on it would be tremendously interesting and entertaining. Look, whatever happens, if I come back or not, it’s a great universe. It deserves to have a future, and I hope that is the case."

Confusion notwithstanding, I think we can all agree on that.

However, while the Star Trek movies are in the wilderness, the TV shows are firing on all cylinders:
