Read the first page of the script for The Witcher season 2!

Geralt is brooding (of course) at the start of the second season of The Witcher. Also making an appearance: a bloodthirsty monster.
Filming on the second season of The Witcher hasn’t always gone smoothly this year: like many other shows, it had to shut down a couple times because of the pandemic, and that was before Henry Cavill (Geralt of Rivia) was injured on set.
But the series has kept on trucking, and we’ll hopefully be watching new episodes sometime in the new year. And the show is ending 2020 in good spirits, revealing a blooper reel, lots of behind-the-scenes pictures, and now, a sneak peak at the script for the season 2 premiere! Check it out below:
So we start with a merchant, his wife, and his daughter rolling into a village looking to stay the night. Things turn ugly when a monster (we’re guessing) kills both the merchant and his wife, leaving the daughter screaming and covered in blood in their cart.
Meanwhile, Geralt is speaking in moody voiceover. “You dogged my every footstep. But struck down others I passed on my way. Why?” he asks. “I was meant to end up alone, wasn’t I? So I would finally begin to be afraid?” I’m not sure, but if you could help the girl survive this encounter, that would be great.
I’m not entirely sure who, if anyone, Geralt is talking to here. It could be anyone — it could be himself — but I’m gonna take a wild swing and say he’s talking to the idea of “destiny,” which he spent a lot of the first season trying to outrun, only for it to find him and unite him with Princess Ciri (Freya Allan), who will going on quite a journey in season 2.
The bits about ending up alone and afraid sound like a reference to Geralt’s predicament at the end of the first season, where he got in over his head battling fearsome beasties and only just survived. Or I’m completely wrong and he’s talking about Yennefer (Anya Chalotra) or something. What do you think?
We don’t have a release date for The Witcher season 2 yet, but with things progressive (relatively) smoothly now, I’d guess we’ll be seeing it sometime in the back half of 2021.
