Halloween director David Gordon Green in talks to make The Exorcist sequel

David Gordon Green managed to breathe new life into the stagnant Halloween franchise, and is set to do the same thing for The Exorcist.

The Exorcist follows a young girl named Regan who seemingly gets possessed by a demon, and the rest is horror movie history. The Exorcist is one of the most iconic horror films ever made, not to mention the scariest. Even if special effects and makeup in 1973 weren’t what they are today, I have yet to find something that scares me the way The Exorcist does.

And now, it looks like the horror will rise again. Observer reports David Gordon Green — director of 2018’s very successful revival of Halloween — is in talks to direct a sequel to The Exorcist. Mind you, there have been many Exorcist sequels (and a TV show) since the original, but none that rebooted the property to its original glory, using all the techniques available to modern filmmakers.

I’ll be quite excited if Green gets to direct, because after years of atrocious Halloween sequels he finally breathed new life into that franchise. He’s also written and directed the follow-ups to the 2018 film, Halloween Kills and Halloween Ends, which will release in 2021 and 2022 respectively, with the former being delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

If Green ends up in the director’s chair, it’s safe to say that The Exorcist is in safe hands. Here’s hoping it happens!
