George R.R. Martin is reportedly reviving his short-lived podcast, possibly to hype up a certain fantasy book he’s been working on…

UPDATE: Okay, I have since been informed that the post at issue went up on December 28, which is the Spanish equivalent of April Fools’ Day. So this was probably just Los Siete Reinos having some fun.

Once upon a time, in the misty age before even A Feast for Crows had come out on bookstore shelves, A Song of Ice and Fire author George R.R. Martin had a podcast. He only produced eight episodes, all of them fairly short, where he talked about things like getting his start as a writer, the genesis of A Song of Ice and Fire, stories from his time in Hollywood, and even one episodes where he read an alternate version of the prologue from A Feast for Crows, told from a different point of view than the one we got.

The episodes are stored on Martin’s personal website…or at least, they used to be. The titles are still there, but they now open to error messages. Have they just degraded, or is there something else afoot?

According to Game of Thrones fansite Los Siete Reinos, it’s the second one. LSR claims to have discovered that Martin is planning on reviving his podcast next year, although we don’t yet know why. Perhaps he’s just been watching the rise of podcast over the past decade and change and wants to get in on the action, or maybe he has a specific plan. The last time he did a podcast was around the release of A Feast for Crows. Might the new one be timed to coincide with The Winds of Winter…?

Time will tell. Meanwhile, a fan went to the trouble of cataloging the old episodes on YouTube if you’d like to listen.
