Diego Luna will play his character from Star Wars: Rogue One in a new Disney+ series, and it sounds like it will be worth the wait.

Star Wars fans don’t often see eye to eye on the newer films in the franchise, but one movie that pleased pretty much everyone is 2016’s Rogue One. The film, which follows a group of resistance fighters attempting to steal the plans for the Death Star, snagged an 86 percent audience score on Rotten Tomatoes and an 84 percent from critics, two groups with opinions that don’t always align.

Given the reception to Rogue One, it’s easy to see why Lucasfilm has chosen to expand the story on Disney+. Andor, which is slated to premiere in 2022, will follow the film’s leading man, Cassian Andor, before the events of Rogue One. Diego Luna is reprising his role in the series and serving as executive producer, and he’s more than a little excited to flesh out this character. The actor said as much in the sizzle reel released during Disney Investor Day earlier this month, which took fans behind the scenes of Andor:

He also talked to The Hollywood Reporter about it“It’s really interesting to tell a story even though we know where it ends,” he said. “The way you can approach a story like this inevitably takes you into a deeper process of reflection. I tend to use that word a lot. So once you know what Cassian is capable of, then there’s room for so much exploration, and that’s something that excites me a lot as an actor. I think the format of a series is amazing because we have a lot of time to explore all those layers.”

But even though he’s switched from movies to TV, Luna insists that filming Andor has felt similar to filming Rogue One. “The way we’re shooting this reminds me of how we shot the film, and the amount of work behind this TV series reminds me of the work you do for a film,” he explained. “It feels like we’re doing a very long movie.”

If that’s the case, Star Wars fans are likely in for a treat when Andor does finally arrive. It sounds like Lucasfilm and Disney are bringing us yet another television series with the quality of a feature film — and after two seasons of The Mandalorian, who’s complaining?
