Between the swords, the gowns, and “The Rains of Castamere” playing on the dance floor, this wedding has everything a Game of Thrones fan could want. And everyone survived!

Theme wedding are nothing new — we’ve even seen a couple epic Game of Thrones theme weddings in the past — but with the coronavirus pandemic raging around the world, it’s making big events of any kind hard, resulting in couples asking if they’ll have to do something smaller.

Such was the case for New York natives Meghan and Greg Hanusch. The recently married couple cut their original 190-person guest list down to 50, but they still managed to have fun by basing the event on Game of Thrones, which had been one of the things that drew them together in the first place. “Game of Thrones was the first thing we really bonded over,” Meghan told Northforker. “We were both big fans.”

The wedding went down at the Jamesport Manor Inn. They didn’t announce that it was a Game of Thrones wedding on their invitations (“We didn’t want it to seem like a costume party,” said Greg), but the signs are all there, starting with all the tables being named after the Great Houses of Westeros.

Meghan’s wedding dress doesn’t look especially medieval, although the crown and cape are a nice throwback to Game of Thrones fashions. The bridesmaids, meanwhile, all wore velvet gowns that have a distinct Thrones-ian flavor to them:

There were the couple’s signature cocktails: the Tequila Sunspear for Greg and the beet margarita “Red Wedding” for Meghan.

That brings up a good point: you can’t have a Game of Thrones wedding without a few guests worrying that something terrible is going to happen, given the show’s history with nuptials. When the DJ started playing “The Rains of Castamere,” some guests did indeed get nervous. “We were laughing,” Meghan said. “People were looking over at us like, ‘Are we gonna die now?’”

Happily, everyone survived, and then took up prop swords to form an archway for the happy couple to walk through:

They also used the swords to cut the cake.

Congrats to Greg and Meghan, and keep your weddings — themed or otherwise — responsibly small.
