It sounds like Ray Fisher’s time as Cyborg in the DC Extended Universe is officially over.

DC Films is currently hard at work on The Flash movie, a solo vehicle for the superhero played by Ezra Miller. Although we don’t know everything yet, it sounds like the movie will involve multiple dimensions, with the Flash meeting a variety of different Batmen (Batmans?), including one played by Michael Keaton, who hasn’t appeared as the character since 1992’s Batman Returns.

Last June, Justice League star Ray Fisher (Cyborg) was offered a cameo role in the movie. We don’t know what he said, but this was right before he started laying into Justice League replacement director Joss Whedon for “gross, abusive, unprofessional, and completely unacceptable” behavior on set. That set off a back-and-forth that lasted for months, climaxing in Warner Bros. undertaking an investigation. The studio claimed it has since taken “remedial action,” although we’re not sure what kind.

We’re also not sure what exactly Whedon did to earn Fisher’s ire. We’re not sure of much in this case, really. We do know that Whedon announced that he was leaving his HBO show The Nevers shortly after the investigation concluded, citing exhaustion and the difficulties of producing such a complicated series in pandemic conditions. Is that true, or did Warner Bros. fire Whedon as a result of its investigation and this is the cover? That’s what Fisher thinks it is, but we just don’t know.

In any case, TheWrap now reports that Cyborg has been written out of The Flash movie, and the role will not be recast. This comes as no surprise after what happened last week, when Fisher called DC Films president Walter Hamada “the most dangerous kind of enabler” and vowed not to be involved in any production associated with him:

Fisher also came for Hamada in October, when he accused the executive of offering to  “throw Joss Whedon and [executive] Jon Berg under the bus” if Fisher lay off of executive Geoff Johns, a claim that Warner Bros. denied.

So did Warner Bros. only decide to write Cyborg out of The Flash after Fisher said he wouldn’t work with Walter Hamada again? Or had that decision already been made and Fisher was getting ahead of things in a “you can’t fire me, I quit” kind of way? Again — and you can say it with me this time — we just don’t know.

Whatever exactly happened here, you can see Fisher as Cyborg in the Snyder Cut of Justice League, which arrives on HBO Max in March.

Next. Who got cancelled in 2020, and why?. dark
