What better way to ring in the new year than with an Avatar: The Last Airbender cast reunion? Here’s when and where it’s happening.
Avatar: The Last Airbender and The Legend of Korra both saw a resurgence in popularity in 2020, thanks in no small part to them both being available on Netflix. That means there’s a whole new generation of fans who are missing Team Avatar. Luckily, they’ll be able to catch up with the voice actors behind their favorite characters this weekend during a virtual reunion event taking place on January 9 at 3:00 p.m. EST.
Dante Basco, who voiced the brooding Prince Zuko in the animated series, announced the news on Instagram:
"Here’s something to look forward to in 2021! #Avatar Reunion!!! Come hang with the #Gaang!"
Seriously, is there a better way to kick off the new year?
The 30-minute event will cost $10 to attend. Cast members will delve into why the animated series remains so relevant after all these years, pleasing longtime fans and finding new audiences. Among the voice actors involved are Basco himself, Jack De Sena (Sokka), Michaela Murphy (Toph), Grey Griffin (Azula), Jennie Kwan (Suki), Olivia Hack (Ty Lee) and Cricket Leigh (Mai). Mae Whitman, who voiced Katara in the series, hasn’t been officially confirmed, but given that she’s tagged in Basco’s Instagram announcement, perhaps she’ll make an appearance.
Last Airbender fans will take whatever they can get right now, particularly since there haven’t been many updates on Netflix’s forthcoming live-action show since animated series creators Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko left the project, citing creative differences. Thankfully, rewatching the animated version never gets old.
