The pandemic has down production on the fourth season of Stranger Things, but Gaten Matarazzo (Dustin) assures fans that things are moving.

The season 3 finale of Stranger Things was a doozy, to put it mildly. The Mind Flayer returned with a vengeance, possessing the locals in Hawkins in order to achieve a physical form. Meanwhile, in a secret Russian base built deep underneath the Starcourt Mall, scientists attempting to harness the power of the Upside Down. Everything climaxed when the gang infiltrated the base, leading Hopper (David Harbour) to sacrifice himself in order to close the gate once and for all. After all that, Joyce (Wynona Ryder) decided to move away from Hawkins, hopefully giving Will (Noah Schnapp), Johnathan (Charlie Heaton) and Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown) a chance to start over.

We already know that Hopper isn’t really dead — Netflix revealed that in the season 4 teaser a while back. He’s somehow in a Russian prison being forced to do hard labor. Fans will also recall that the events of last season took their toll on Eleven. After battling the Mind Flayer, she has lost her telekinetic powers.

Speaking to Hollywood Life, Gaten Matarazzo, who plays Dustin Henderson on the show, revealed that production on season 4 is continuing “slowly, but surely,” although the pace has been adjusted due to the ongoing pandemic. “ already is basically playing it by ear anyway, but the pandemic on top of it just makes scheduling a lot harder.”

"Everyone’s great. I actually had not gotten to see anybody really during the quarantine at all. There was a stretch of six months where we really weren’t talking to each other a lot; we all had stuff going on at home. But that made going back a lot more fun.  The minute we stepped back on set, we said, ‘We have the coolest job on planet earth.’"

I don’t know about you, but I cannot wait to see new episodes of Stranger Things. I loved season 3 and I can’t wait to learn more about Eleven’s powers, where Joyce took the kids, and the Upside Down.

Hopefully, production on season 4 continues without a further hitch!
