The world of Avatar: The Last Airbender, recreated in Minecraft
Dedicated Minecraft players have been working since 2012 to recreate the world of Avatar: The Last Airbender in exquisite detail. See what they made!
Flameo, fellow hotmen! If you are a fan of the animated series Avatar: The Last Airbender, then you know that the setting is absolutely incredible. Aang (Zach Tyler Eisen), Katara (Mae Whitman), Toph (Jessie Flower), Sokka (Jack DeSena) and Zuko (Dante Basco) travel to each of the Four Nations over the course of the show. The creators, animators, and writers of Avatar: The Last Airbender did an impeccable job of making the world seem vast, diverse and all-encompassing. I binged all three seasons when ATLA arrived on Netflix in May and I would like nothing more than to visit Uncle Iroh’s tea shop for a nice cup of oolong.
If you’ve always been fascinated by the Four Nations, then I have some cool news to share with you. As reported by Polygon, a group of Minecraft players has assembled a custom server to build an incredibly detailed replica of the world of Avatar.
The server is called Four Nations Minecraft, and it’s been in production since 2012. It recently went viral with a Tik-Tok shot of the Southern Air Temple:
"@fournationsmcThe Southern Air Temple! Such an amazing view come experience it yourself on our avatar server! #fyp #airbenders #avatar #alta♬ Avatars Love – Javriii"
A dedicated group of 20 players made the Avatar map for role-play purposes, and it’s since grown to accommodate many players. The server allows players to join one of the Four Nations, participate in battles between the kingdoms, and make a home for themselves. Check out the official trailer below:
The server has even moved forward in time over the years! Now you can visit Republic City from The Legend of Korra and see other landmarks from the sequel series. The server administrators even choose an Avatar from the player base!
All four nations are run by players, with server leaders setting up various storylines: a Fire Nation cult, a civil war, trade disputes, bending arena fights, and more.
To recreate the Avatar world in such detail, the creators had to look at official art books and comics to get everything just right. If you need me, I’ll be choosing my flying bison at the Southern Air Temple!
