From the final book in The Expanse saga to epic fantasy tales set in all kinds of imaginative worlds, 2021 will be a great year for fantasy and sci-fi fans.

One of my favorite things about the turn of a new year is marking down all the upcoming book releases to look forward to. There’s just something about reading descriptions for new books and discovering new favorite authors that gets the nerd in me hyped beyond reason.

2020 was a pretty awesome year for science fiction and fantasy books, all things considered. True, many titles were delayed or otherwise affected by the coronavirus, but it also brought us epics like Rhythm of War by Brandon Sanderson, The Fires of Vengeance by Evan Winter, The City We Became by N.K. Jemisin and The Trouble with Peace by Joe Abercrombie. Books, it turns out, are a perfect activity for this whole pandemic thing we’re all currently weathering.

And the upcoming year is stacked with exciting releases, whether it’s because some books got pushed back thanks to the pandemic or just because the schedule worked out this way. In any case, 2021 is already shaping up to be a huge year for sci-fi and fantasy fans, and we’ve gathered 15 of the most exciting new works to look forward to. From the adventures of no-nonsense warrior queens to epic intergalactic warfare, 2021 is looking like it’s going to be one hell of a year for books.
