Folks are pretty sure a Game of Thrones star is on The Masked Singer
By Dan Selcke
Fans are pretty sure that a prominent Game of Thrones cast member is “the Viking” on the new season of The Masked Singer. But which one?
The Masked Singer is a show on Fox where celebrities put on silly costumes and sing songs while the people at home try to guess who they are. Past contestants have included the likes of Donny Osmond, Gladys Knight, LeAnn Rimes and Nick Carter, and now, people are pretty certain that someone from Westeros has crashed the party. And they’re pretty sure he’s hiding under a giant Vikings mask:
Okay, so who is it? Judge Jonathan Ross pegged the Vikings as none other than Jerome Flynn, aka Bronn.
The cold-hearted sellsword as a crooner in a silly outfit? It’s not as far-fetched as you might think. Back in the ’90s, Flynn actually had a number 1 hit in the UK as part of the duo Robson & Jerome, which put out a popular cover of The Righteous Brothers’ “Unchained Melody.”
Side note: can you imagine how A Song of Ice and Fire fans felt when they learned that an ex-pop crooner was cast as the hard-hearted Bronn? Who knew that it would work out so perfectly?
Anyway, Ross looked at the various clues about the Vikings’ identity and put it together. Apparently they had broken records (the Robson & Jerome version of “Unchained Melody” sold 314,000 copies in its first week, breaking a record at the time), they were famous in the U.K. as well as in America (thank you, Game of Thrones) and their career included “brotherly love” (because Righteous Brothers).
Seems like an open-and-shut case to me. Plus that Viking kind of sounded like Flynn. On The Masked Singer, we don’t learn the contestants’ identities until they leave the competition, and obviously Bronn will win because he’s the ultimate survivor, so that could be a while.
