The Mandalorian has provided opportunities for characters who had previously appeared only in animated Star Wars show to make the jump to live action. Take Katee Sackhoff’s Bo-Katan Kryze, for example, or Ahsoka Tano. And as Disney prepares to explode the Star Wars universe, there could be more of that on the way.

And there could be more of that on the way. Take the character of the Grand Inquisitor Star Wars Rebels, voiced by Harry Potter alum Jason Isaacs. One of the most memorable villains in the galaxy, he was the leader of the Inquisition — an Imperial group of skilled agents — and it was his task to hunt down and kill Jedi. Despite being a menacing-looking foe who was skilled with a Lightsaber fighter, Isaacs brought a certain charm to the role.

Unfortunately (SPOILER incoming), the Grand Inquisitor met his demise at the end of season 1 after one final duel with Kanan Jarrus, but that hasn’t stopped rumors of the Rebels villain making a triumphant return, perhaps in one of the many Star Wars shows Disney is preparing to release over the next few years.

In fact, it could be easier for him to return than you think. In issue #6 of Charles Soule’s Star Wars comic, we learn that the Grand Inquisitor is actually still alive, since Darth Vader was able to capture his spirit.

Jason Isaacs played up rumors that he may reprise his role as the Grand Inquisitor from Star Wars Rebels in a Star Wars Disney+ show.

Rather excitingly, Isaacs played up the rumors a little when Collider asked him about joining one of the upcoming Star Wars shows. “I’m open to anything,” he said.

"It’s always about the script. I don’t want to just turn up so that I can take some photographs and go to conventions. I’d like to play parts. The Inquisitor was a great part when I played it and if the Inquisitor was a great part again, I’d be up for it. But yeah, Katee Sackhoff had a very good time. I know Katee and I’ll say, I’ve loved being part of the Star Wars world. They’ve invited me in although I’ve only ever been an animated character before."

Of course, we all know how many Star Wars TV shows are in development: The Mandalorian season 3, Ahsoka, The Book of Boba Fett, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Rangers of the New Republic, Andor, Lando, and more. This leaves a lot of room for Jason Isaacs to reprise his role. If it happens, I’m willing to bet it’ll be in the upcoming Obi-Wan Kenobi show. Since Darth Vader is going to be involved, it makes sense that his Inquisitors might be too.

Then again, a lot of actors have been linked with joining the Star Wars universe recently. I mean, even MCU godfather Robert Downey Jr. has been rumored for a part!

After seeing characters like Ahsoka and Bo-Katan join The Mandalorian, the possibility of seeing Jason Isaacs in a Disney+ show definitely seems feasible. “I’m being a bit cagey because, you know, it could happen, I suppose,” he said.

Well, now we can add Jason Isaacs’ name to the list of “maybes” for a future
