The Snyder Cut has an official release date

Zack Snyder’s Justice League, aka the Snyder Cut, is hitting HBO Max on March 18, although we still don’t know how (or whether) it’ll be broken up.

First it was a twinkle in the eye of fans disappointed by the theatrical version of Justice League, which transformed after original director Zack Snyder exited the project partway through and Avengers director Joss Whedon was brought on to finish the work. Then, cast members and Snyder himself started to hint that there was indeed a “Snyder Cut,” a version of the movie that preserved Snyder’s original vision. And now, four years after Justice League hit theaters, the Snyder Cut is officially coming to HBO Max on March 18, 2021.

Yep, that’s the official release date that Warner Bros. dropped in a press release just this morning. That release also came with some stark new posters:

The last one with the film canisters is cute.

Zack Snyder’s Justice League will still tell basically the same story as Justice League — Batman, Wonder Woman and other supehreores team up in the wake of Superman’s death to combat forces that threaten Earth — but Snyder’s versions will have hours of never-before-seen footage, both stuff he shot for the original movie and brand new stuff.

There was a time I didn’t think this would happen. I was wrong. When the internet gets together and demands something, it really can turn the wheels.

One thing the press release doesn’t mention is whether the Snyder Cut will be released as one massive four-plus hour movie or in four smaller segments — we’ve heard it both ways. I guess we won’t have to wait too long to find out the truth.
