Billie Piper’s performance as Rose Tyler in the then-newly rebooted Doctor Who series kicked off the show’s resurgence, where it was introduced to a new generation of fans. Whether it was Rose and the Ninth Doctor (Christopher Eccleston) or Rose and David Tennant’s Tenth Doctor, fans agree that Rose is one of the best Companions to ever be on the series.

In a recent interview with The Guardian, interviewer Sophie Heawood tells Piper that her young daughter only knows The Doctor to be a woman. She wonders if Piper would ever return to the show, as Rose or as The Doctor, but it doesn’t sound like the kind of role Piper is looking for right now:

"Oh that is so good! I wouldn’t go back. It’s a great role, but you’re away from your kids for so long. My experience was that you were in Wales for nine months solid. And as a job it dominates your life. It’s mainstream family viewing so you can’t really escape it. It feels like it makes you very, very famous."

While it sounds like Piper isn’t looking to become a full-time cast member, it’s possible she might be open to a return in other capacities.

Billie Piper doesn’t rule out popping back on Doctor Who

Piper also notes that her kids don’t think coming back to Doctor Who full time is something she needs to do. Piper says she tried to show episodes to her kids and discovered that her kids were concerned that their mother was being chased by Daleks and the like.

Piper returned to the Doctor Who Universe for a brief cameo appearance in 2013, and she joined the cast for the franchise’s audio adventures, which allow her to work on the series while remaining with her family, which seems to be a good mix for the time being.

The key is that she hasn’t closed the door to the Doctor Who Universe entirely, so if the right opportunity came about it’s possible that Rose Tyler could return, which would be a very welcome sight.
