Now that her work on the Star Wars sequels has come to an end, Daisy Ridley is opening up about how hard it was to say goodbye to the role of Rey.
In a recent interview with People, Ridley talked about the whirlwind of emotion she experienced upon wrapping production on Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. “When we wrapped I wept all day. I felt like I was going to pop a vein because I was crying so much.”
When you take into account the time spent working on 2015’s Star Wars: The Force Awakens, the 28-year old Ridley spent over five years of her life immersed in the Star Wars universe. Leaving it at the end of the journey must have been very difficult. “Obviously not to say that it was like grieving, but it was grieving something,” Ridley continued. “I’ll always have it, and we’re all bonded by this incredible thing.”
Daisy Ridley’s Star Wars journey has ended, but the future is bright
Ridley found time to work on small projects during the time she spent working on the Star Wars sequels, but now she’s looking forward to a bright future with her upcoming role in a new VR experience called Baba Yaga on Oculus Quest.
With the Star Wars universe finding creative ways to bring back characters from the past, like Luke Skywalker’s cameo in The Mandalorian, there’s always the possibility that Rey could return in some way in the future if Ridley is interested. But for now, she seems content with how Rey’s story ended in The Rise of Skywalker.
