Michelle Pfeiffer wants to return as Catwoman
Michelle Pfeiffer introduced Catwoman to a whole new generation in the 1992 Tim Burton movie Batman Returns. As the beguiling Selina Kyle, she was skittish and afraid of her boss, but one fateful night changed everything and soon she was leaping across Gotham City rooftops giving Michael Keaton’s Batman a run for his money.
In a recent interview with Screen Rant, Pfeiffer indicated that she would love to return to the now-iconic role. “I would if anyone asked me but no one’s asked me yet,” she said.
Ten years ago, Pfeiffer returning to the Batman universe might have seemed strange, but with Keaton reportedly putting on the cape and cowl again for the upcoming Flash movie, anything is possible. There’s no reason that Pfeiffer couldn’t tag along for the fun.
Each version of the character is rich in its own way, but there was something very special when Pfeiffer hit the big screen dressed head to toe in black latex.
How Michelle Pfeiffer could return as Catwoman
Let’s start by pointing out that Batman Returns left the fate of Pfeiffer’s Catwoman up in the air. With both DC Comics and Marvel using the concept of “multiverses” to explore other realities, it’s possible that Pfeiffer’s Catwoman is still around on an alternate version of Earth, with her own Batman and her own story.
It would be fun to see Pfeiffer and Keaton together again in the Flash movie. Even if it’s brief, there was so much left unsaid between them at the end of Batman Returns, and getting a glimpse of what their lives have been like since would be very satisfying.
Matt Reeves’ upcoming film The Batman will introduce Zoe Kravitz as Catwoman, who will join a long and prestigious list of women who have brought the character to life. From Julie Newmar to Eartha Kitt to Halle Berry to Anne Hathaway and more, Catwoman has had more than nine lives across television and movies.
There is plenty of room for Michelle Pfeiffer to reprise the role, and it would be a welcome move that fans would appreciate.
