Watch the new trailer for Superman & Lois, on The CW and HBO Max
What better place for a new Superman commercial than the Super Bowl? The latest trailer for The CW’s upcoming Superman & Lois series is titled “All Right Now” but things are definitely not quite right in Smallville as Clark and Lois struggle with their teenage sons. The move to the country was supposed to make bonding with the family easier, but things get complicated when Jonathan and Jordan Kent finally learn their father’s secret.
Superman & Lois has a decidedly more mature feel to it than other Arrowverse shows, which makes sense because this will be the first new series available on HBO Max. While the show is airing on The CW, WarnerMedia is still the parent company, and it clearly has a vision for what the future shows should look like. And the bigger budget probably helps, too.
The first trailer for the new series was released in December and hinted that Clark was trying to explain his alter ego to his sons. The “All Right Now” trailer (it’s set to the Free song of the same name) dives deeper into the big reveal as his sons see their father lifting a truck over his head.
They’re surprised, of course, and somewhat angsty, as teenagers are wont to be.
Superman & Lois Super Bowl commercial reveals that the kids aren’t alright
Parenthood is obviously going to be a huge theme of the show. The Kent boys aren’t exactly thrilled that their father is Superman. For them, it’s proof that he has been living a double life and lying to them about why he has to miss events in their lives.
The trailer does a good job of setting up a show that isn’t bright and shiny like the mid-90s Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman series. Superman & Lois is rooted in reality and reality isn’t always what we want it to be.
Superman & Lois premieres on February 23 at 8:00 p.m. on The CW.
