The cameras will soon be rolling on House of the Dragon, HBO’s Game of Thrones prequel show. Costume designer Jany Temime gives fans a little update.
Game of Thrones ended back in 2019. The first Game of Thrones prequel series, Blood Moon, was cancelled several months later. It’s taken a while, but HBO is finally getting the Game of Thrones spin-off train back on track, as we edge closer to full production on House of the Dragon.
This Game of Thrones prequel — which was ordered straight to series, so there’s no chance of it being cancelled like Blood Moon, barring catastrophe — will tell the story of the Dance of the Dragons, a brutal Targaryen civil war that tore Westeros apart nearly 200 years before the events of the original series. We already know a lot about it, including some of the names both in front of and behind the camera. The latter group includes Jany Temime, a costume designer who’s worked on stuff like In Bruges, Skyfall, Gravity, Judy and the upcoming Black Widow, not to mention every Harry Potter film from Prisoner of Azkaban on. Just the other day, she posted a photo of Leavesden Studios in Watford, England, tagging it with #GameofThrones:
We’d heard a while back that Leavesden Studios was going to be the production headquarters for House of the Dragon in its first season (although, like its mother show, it will also film in other areas). Seeing Temime post this image can only mean that pre-production is rolling on, which means that filming will soon begin on the first Game of Thrones prequel that will actually make it to air.
When exactly will the cameras start rolling? Well, back in early December, HBO said that principal photography was due to start “in a few months.” So basically, any minute now.
It’ll be good to be back in Westeros, although the show itself isn’t expected to air until 2022.
