One of the high points of Game of Thrones’ final seasons is that fans got to see more from brilliantly stoic Lyanna Mormont, head of House Mormont and loyal supporter of the Starks. Now, actress Bella Ramsey has just been cast as the lead in an upcoming medieval comedy, together with some high-profile castmates and producers.

Ramsey will play the lead in Catherine, Called Birdy the story of a young woman’s quest to avoid being married off in the middle of the Middle Ages. Her quest to maintain control of her own life is both comedic and somber, a reminder of how many women in the Middle Ages were viewed as property to be used in strategic marriages to build relationships between families. It’s something that fans of Game of Thrones should find familiar.

The movie is based on the book of the same by Karen Cushman, a favorite of writer-director Lena Dunham, the creator of HBO’s Girls. According to Deadline, the script is a lot of fun.

According to journalist Baz Bamigboye, who first reported the casting news on his Twitter account, Ramsey will be joined by Doctor Who’s Billie Piper and Sherlock’s Andrew Scott, who will play Birdy’s parents. There’s no timeline on the project but it will reportedly film in several locations in England including Wales and Gloucester.

A chance to see Lyanna Mormont actress shine in her own film

There’s no question that Bella Ramsey stole every scene she was in during her time on Game of Thrones. It’s hard to imagine such a young actress delivering her lines with so much force, but Ramsey managed it beautifully and really created a name for herself among Game of Thrones fans and beyond.

Ramsey is a prolific actress despite her age, appearing recently in the HBO series His Dark Materials. She also had a role in Judy, the Judy Garland biopic starring Renee Zellweger. A starring role sounds just about right for her.
