Grab the Scooby Snacks because we have some news about one of your favorite sleuths. As reported by Entertainment Weekly, an animated series about the one and only Velma Dinkley is headed to HBO Max.

Velma has always been the brains of the operation. I’m convinced that it’s her creativity, attention to detail, and critical thinking skills that have allowed Mystery Inc. to maintain their 100% success rate. Let’s be honest: Velma is the real leader of the Scooby gang. Fred only seems like he’s in charge because he can drive a van.

Anyone who knows me knows that I love Scooby-Doo. In fact, for my birthday last year I was given a set of old-school Scooby-Doo VHS tapes, including classics like Scooby-Doo Meets the Harlem Globetrotters and Scooby-Doo on Zombie Island.

Velma has always been one of my favorite characters, whether it’s Linda Cardellini in the live-action 2002 film or Mindy Cohn in Scooby-Doo! Mystery Incorporated. Several actresses have tackled the role since Velma was first introduced to audiences in the 1969 Scooby-Doo, Where Are You! episode “What a Night for a Knight,” including Nicole Jaffe, B.J. Ward, Hayley Kiyoko and Gina Rodriguez.

In this new series, Velma will be voiced by The Office alum Mindy Kaling. WarnerMedia released a statement describing the prequel series as an “original and humorous” look at Velma’s “complex and colorful” origin story. As told by Buzzfeed News, Kaling will also serve as an executive producer for the project.

There is currently no news regarding the show’s release date, but you can bet that I will be waiting for the announcement so that I can mark my calendar!
