DC Comics and Spotify are teaming up to create scripted audio series featuring some of the greatest heroes and villains from across the DC Comics universe.

DC is teaming up with Spotify to produce an entire lineup of podcasts featuring beloved heroes and villains. While DC powerhouses like Superman, Wonder Woman and Joker will have their own scripted series, there are also stories being planned for the likes of Catwoman, the Riddler, Lois Land, Harley Quinn and Katana. “I think the fanbase will respond to this in an exciting way and embrace it as something new and novel,” said DC’s Chief Creative Officer Jim Lee. “[It] supplements all the other ways they take in the DC Universe.”

According to SyFy Wire, one of the new scripted series, Batman Unburied, will dive into Bruce Wayne’s psyche. The project hails from screenwriter David S. Goyer, who says that “we’re going to be doing a deep dive into Batman’s unconscious mind, into his dream state. We are really leaning into playing around with the idea of surround sound.”

Lee is excited about that project, as well. “The types of stories you can tell with [Bruce Wayne] are pretty broad, so it allows David to explore the suspense/thriller side of Batman and do something different in a new format.” And DC has already hinted at more to come, including an unrelated Batman podcast with a comedic twist featuring Jeffrey Wright as Batman and a host of other big name actors and comedians rounding out the ensemble, among them Seth Meyers, Kenan Thompson, Rosario Dawson and Brooke Shields.

One of the big draws for podcasts is the ability to record and produce shows remotely, allowing big name talent to work on the series without needing to travel or spend time away from family. And they could allow DC to explore lesser-known characters who might never headline their own feature or animated series…at least until their podcast story blows up.
