The guy behind Battlestar Galactica, Outlander and more is making a shared universe of shows based on Disney Parks attractions.

Disney has never been one to turn down a franchising opportunity. We’re talking about the studio that already has approximately 30,000 Star Wars and Marvel TV series in the works for its streaming service Disney+. And now, The Hollywood Reporter has it that we’re getting a Magic Kingdom Universe.

Just what is a Magic Kingdom Universe? It’s a network of TV shows based on different aspects of the Disney Parks. For instance, the first series is The Society of Explorers and Adventurers, which will feature characters like the sea boat captain from the Jungle Cruise ride or the prospector from Big Thunder Mountain, all together and getting into trouble.

You can see how that might get turned into a franchise. There could be an Adventureland series, a Tormorrowland show, maybe a sitcom set on Main Street, U.S.A. They could adapt that Pirates of the Caribbean ride…oh, wait.

The whole thing will be managed by Ronald D. Moore, a Star Trek writer who went on to create shows like Battlestar GalacticaOutlander and most recently For All Mankind on Apple TV+. “I am a huge fan and aficionado of the Disneyland park in Anaheim to the point where I would go there by myself periodically and ride the rides,” Moore told THR. “The opportunity for me to get to work on a lot of the classic IP that Disney has and things in their library that meant so much to me as a child growing up and that I have shared with my children ultimately was just something I couldn’t pass up.”

These projects are in the early stages of development, and Moore is working with Disney’s Imagineering teams on bringing them to life.
