A Discovery of Witches actor replaced with The Last Kingdom star for season 3
By Dan Selcke
A Discovery of Witches is in the midst of its second season. There will be a third in due time, but when it comes, there will be some changes.
Specifically, the team has to replace a cast member. “Due to scheduling conflicts arising from COVID-19, the wonderful Trystan Gravelle was unable to continue as Baldwin Montclair for season three,” a spokesperson told RadioTimes.com. “However, he has handed the baton to the fantastic Peter McDonald who we’re sure you’ll absolutely love as the intimidating head of the de Clermont family.”
Baldwin Montclair is a powerful vampire and a brother to Matthew Clairmont. Baldwin reluctantly helped defend Matthew’s romance with lead character Diana Bishop despite the long-held rivalry between vampires and witches.
As for Peter McDonald, he was indeed in Netflix’s historical epic The Last Kingdom, playing a priest who’s part of a plot to sell lead character Uhtred of Bebbanburg into slavery. Hopefully he’ll be a bit more sympathetic on A Discovery of Witches.
“I’m delighted to be taking the role of Baldwin de Clermont into season 3 of A Discovery of Witches,” McDonald said. “I’m relishing the opportunity to tell this story with all the cast and crew at Bad Wolf Productions.”
Why is this Discovery of Witches actor being replaced with someone from The Last Kingdom?
There’s no word on what conflict Trystan Gravelle has that made it impossible for him to make more of A Discovery of Witches, although Digital Spy notes that he has a part in Amazon’s upcoming Lord of the Rings series, which could explain things.
New episodes of A Discovery of Witches continue to roll out every Friday.
