New trailers for Shadow and Bone, Army of the Dead, M.O.D.O.K. and more

A bunch of new trailers dropped this week. What will we be watching over the next couple of months? Let’s see, starting with a proper trailer for Netflix’s Shadow and Bone:
This show is an adaptation of Leigh Bardugo’s beloved Shadow and Bone fantasy series, both the Grisha trilogy and the Six of Crows duology. It takes place in a fantasy world modeled off Imperial Russia. That’s Ben Barnes as the Darkling narrating a chunk of the trailer.
Shadow and Bone arrives on Netflix on April 23.
Sticking with Netflix, Zack Snyder is bringing us a new zombie flick:
Army of the Dead
Army of the Dead comes out on May 21. It marks his return to the zombie genre since breaking out with a remake of George Romero’s 1978 classic Dawn of the Dead in 2004. Army of the Dead stars Guardians of the Galaxy’s Dave Bautista, who leads a group of mercenaries into Las Vegas to pull off the greatest heist of all time…in the midst of a zombie apocalypse. The ultimate gamble.
In addition to Bautista, the movie stars Ella Purnell, Garret Dillahunt, Omari Hardwick, Ana De La Reguera, Huma Qureshi, Tig Notaro, Hiroyuki Sanada, Theo Rossi, Nora Arnezeder, Raúl Castillo, Samantha Win, Richard Cetrone and Michael Cassidy.
I don’t think there’s any filmmaker in the world who’s been talked about as much as Zack Snyder lately. Between this and Zack Snyder’s Justice League, which is out on HBO Max on March 18, the guy has a lot of irons in the fire.
Next let’s jump over to Hulu for a new look at a returning favorite:
The Handmaid’s Tale season 4
“We don’t hide. We fight.” After multiple pandemic-related delays, we finally have a new trailer for the next season of The Handmaid’s Tale. The first three episodes of the dystopian drama will drop on Hulu all at once, while the remaining seven will air weekly after that.
And fans can rejoice in knowing this won’t be the final season: Disney announced back in December that there would be a fifth.
The Handmaid’s Tale season 4 premieres exclusively to Hulu on April 28.
Finally, also on Hulu, there is…
M.O.D.O.K.
Our first look at Marvel’s M.O.D.O.K. is more of a teaser than a full-blown trailer. It has an interesting style of animation and packs in a bunch of humor.
Voiced by Patton Oswalt, M.O.D.O.K (Mental Organism Designed Only for Killing) has long sought to conquer the world through his evil organization A.I.M., but is constantly thwarted by Marvel superheroes. Eventually, he’s removed from his position at A.I.M., which means he’s got to do it all by himself.
M.O.D.O.K. was first introduced into Marvel comics way back to 1967, created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby. His series drops on Hulu on May 21!
The Suicide Squad and the trailers to come
One trailer we want to see but haven’t yet is for James Gunn’s upcoming movie The Suicide Squad. Gunn hasn’t forgotten all the fans crying out for it, either. In a recent Q&A, he offered an update:
"I’m changing one visual effect I’m not happy with, and one musical score cue, and then it’s done. The trailer isn’t done yet. I’ve been a bit preoccupied. Sorry."
With the movie set to bow in August, now seems like the perfect time for a trailer. I suppose we’re going to have to be patient.
Lots of movies and TV shows have been pushed back thanks to the pandemic shutting down sets worldwide. We won’t be seeing movies like Morbius, The Batman, and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness until 2022. But clearly, we’re still getting exciting stuff this year.
