Lucifer fans are in for a very special treat when the show’s final season rolls around. According to Comicbook.com, star Kevin Alejandro will direct the penultimate episode of season 6, reuniting him with writer Chris Rafferty. The duo worked together on the season 5 episode “Spoiler Alert,” which might be fitting given that episode 609 is titled “Goodbye, Lucifer.”

Alejandro is an original member of the cast, bringing the lovable Detective Dan Espinoza to life. He went behind the camera in 2018 to direct his first episode of the show, and has now helmed a total of three. The penultimate episode of the series will be his fourth.

Lucifer is known for having episode titles that are taken directly from dialogue, and even though they often seem like they could have a greater meaning, they seldom offer clues about what the episode is about. “Goodbye, Lucifer” could be something one character says to another in passing, or it could have larger implications given that it’s the second-to-last episode ever.

When will Lucifer return to Netflix for season 5 part 2?

There is still a lot of Lucifer left to come. There are eight more episodes that make up the second half of Lucifer season 5, and then 10 episodes in season 6.

The first half of season 5 debuted in 2020, and though the second half has been filmed, it’s not ready to air just yet. “It’s not finished yet,” the show’s writers noted earlier this year. “The pandemic blew up our plans. But when we have an official release date, trust us, we’re dying to let you know! Same with a trailer.”

Season 5 was originally believed to be the final season until Netflix picked Lucifer up for season 6. The show has been a ratings darling for the streamer, and Lucifer fans are eager for as much content as possible. The additional season will give writers a chance to bring the series to a close in fitting fashion.
