The Witcher was one of those shows especially hard hit by the pandemic. The second season has been in production for a long while, but it’s stop and start for months, with the set shutting down more than once thanks to COVID-19, and that’s not to mention Henry Cavill’s on-set injury.

And yet they’ve soldiered on, and soon enough we’ll be watching the continuing adventures of Geralt, Ciri, Yennefer and the rest of this high fantasy crew as they grapple with their destinies. Last we left Geralt, he had finally met up with the wayward Princess Ciri. If the show follows the books by Andrzej Sapkowski, he’ll take her to his childhood home of Kaer Morhen, where she’ll be trained as a witcher.

That said, the show has been willing to invent storylines of its own, as well, or pull things from the popular video games. And it looks like that will continue, as Redanian Intelligence reports that Downton Abbey alum Kevin Doyle will join the show as Ba’Lian, a character who’s nowhere to be found in the novels.

What will Kevin Doyle bring to The Witcher season 2?

Doyle has lots of roles to his name, including a part on The Tudors as well as lots of classic characters during his time working with the Royal Shakespeare Company. On Downton Abbey, his valet character Mr. Molesley was affable but kind of bumbling. Whatever role he’s playing in The Witcher, we’re sure he can knock it out of the park.

Unfortunately we still don’t know when The Witcher season 2 is coming out on Netflix, but with the pandemic problems hopefully behind them, we’ll cross our fingers that it’s this year.
