Ruby Rose open to returning to Batwoman
Ruby Rose shocked Batwoman fans when she announced that she was leaving the show at the end of Batwoman’s freshman season, citing her recovery from back surgery (a result of an on-set injury) as one of the reasons she needed to go. She also said that she had been struggling with the stress of being the lead on a superhero series.
Instead of recasting Rose’s character, Kate Kane, The CW brought on Javicia Leslie as a whole new character, Ryan Wilder, to don the Batwoman suit. Since Rose announced her departure after the season 1 finale, there was no opportunity to wrap up Kate Kane’s story. But speaking to ComicBookMovie.com, Rose said she’s open to returning.
Ruby Rose is open to tying up the loose ends of Kate Kane’s story
Rose is promoting her new film SAS: Red Notice, and made clear she’s willing to return if the need is there. “I mean, I’m obviously moving on to other roles as I think I’ve done about three films since,” she said. “I would totally do it. I don’t think it would serve the story because I think building the new Batwoman is more important than going back too far into Kate Kane, but of course I would, I would absolutely do anything they wanted as far as that.
She added that she’s seen a few of the new episodes and thinks the showrunners are doing a “beautiful” job handling her departure.
Given The CW’s enthusiasm for crossovers, there are probably plenty of opportunities to bring Kate Kane back and give her story to a proper conclusion. That would be a great way to bring closure for Rose and give Leslie a chance to move forward unhindered.
