Netflix’s Russian Doll is coming back for another round of twisty sci-fi comedy, with Schitt’s Creek veteran Annie Murphy here for support.

The first season of Netflix’s Russian Doll was an unexpected hit, a clever sci-fi comedy about a game developer (Natasha Lyonne) who gets caught in a time loop where she dies over and over, restarting in the bathroom at her own birthday party every time. Eventually, she meets a guy (Charlie Barnett) in pretty much the same situation, and they vow to get out of their loops.

As popular as the series got, we’ve been waiting a while for a follow-up, not because Netflix doesn’t want to make one but because COVID-19 messed up everything for a straight year and counting. But finally, production on season 2 is happening, and The A.V. Club reports that Schitt’s Creek veteran Annie Murphy has joined the cast.

Murphy impressed as the flakey Alexis Rose on Schitt’s Creek, and seems like a good fit for a show that toes the line between comedy and genre like Russian Doll. The show was created by Lyonne, Amy Poehler and Leslye Headland, who’s creating one of several new Star Wars shows for Disney+, so it’s got some interesting DNA.

As for who Murphy will play, we have no idea. We don’t even know where the show goes from here. Will it pick up with Lyonne and Barnett’s characters after the end of the first season? Or will a new character get caught in a different loop? Maybe Murphy’s? There’s no release date yet, so we’ll probably be waiting a while to find out.
