Thor: Love and Thunder will make the God of Thunder the only Avenger in the Marvel Cinematic Universe to be given a fourth solo movie, something not even Iron Man or Captain America got. Coming hot off the success of Thor: Ragnarok, Love and Thunder has a lot to live up to, and star Chris Hemsworth is feeling the pressure!

Love and Thunder is a loose adaptation of the Mighty Thor run of comics by Jason Aaron. In the comics, Jane Foster (Natalie Portman) is transformed into the omnipotent Goddess of Thunder after she lifts Mjolnir. In the meantime, she’s suffering from cancer.

Ragnarok definitely rejuvenated the Thor franchise by showing off Hemsworth’s comedic talents. Director Taika Waititi returns for this next installment, which now has some high expectations to live up to. “There’s that same — if not more — pressure now to do that again,” Hemsworth told GQ. “So there’s a little bit of exciting nervous energy that is motivating all of us to reach a little further and make sure we’re covering all bases and approaching the scene from every angle.”

Chris Hemsworth finds costar Chris Pratt “intimidating”

To underline the franchise’s new appreciation for comedy, the team from Guardians of the Galaxy will costar in the new Thor movie — remember that Thor left with them at the end of Avengers: Endgame. And while Hemsworth is clearly happy to have Chris Pratt (Star-Lord) and company aboard, he can’t help but feel a little intimidated: “The guy is wildly impressive with the spontaneity and the humor and the things he comes up with. It’s both funny, inspiring, and intimidating.”

But at the end of the day, a little pressure can be a good thing. “It’s all about looking for new challenges, you know?” Hemsworth said. “I’ve been working for 15 years now and there was a period when anything and everything was new and exciting, and the hardest thing was saying ‘no’ because you wanted to keep working…Any time it feels too familiar or too comfortable, I find my interest not being piqued.”

Thor: Love and Thunder is due out in February 2022, less than a year away. Hopefully it lives up to expectations. With the source material to work from, things are definitely looking up.
