There’s a lot to look forward to this week — the Snyder Cut, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier — but we also got some bad news: Killing Eve will be ending after its fourth season.

The thrilling series stars Grey’s Anatomy’s Sandra Oh as intelligence agent Eve Polastri and The White Princess’ Jodie Comer as the villainous assassin Villanelle. Their cat-and-mouse game has been thrilling and it’s going to be hard to say goodbye, but luckily we have some time before we have to.

When will Killing Eve season 4 premiere?

News of the ending came early from AMC Networks. Killing Eve will air eight new episodes this summer, and then, no more.

The video only reveals that the show is ending towards the end, blindsiding fans. It’s reminiscent of The Good Wife’s startling final season announcement in a 2016 Super Bowl ad.

In its statement, the network also said that it’s exploring “a number of potential spinoff ideas to extend the show’s iconic universe.” If there’s going to be a spin-off solely focused Villanelle’s wild shenanigans starring Comer, I am so on board for that. If Comer got her own series to carry on Villanelle’s story, I think Killing Eve fans could accept that the flagship series is ending.

The women behind the camera on Killing Eve are just as talented as the ones in front of it. Fleabag’s Phoebe-Waller Bridge kickstarted the series and then handed the reins over to Emerald Fennell, who just got nominated for an Oscar for directing Promising Young Woman (and who plays Camilla Parker-Bowles in The Crown, FYI). Producer and writer Suzanne Heathcote (SeeFear The Walking Dead) took over with season 3, and now Laura Neal (Sex Education) will handle season 4.

This wonderful team of women has brought Killing Eve to life, and I look forward to seeing how this award-winning series will come to a killer conclusion.
