Nikolaj Coster-Waldau (Jaime Lannister) will star alongside Jamie Foxx in a thriller about a detective who must save his daughter from a cult.

Game of Thrones veteran Nikolaj Coster-Waldau has landed a plum new role in God Is A Bullet, a new action-thriller from Nick Cassavetes that’s already started up pre-production in Mexico City, according to Deadline.

Coster-Waldau plays vice detective Bob Hightower, who finds his wife murdered and his daughter kidnapped by a Satanic cult. Naturally, the authorities aren’t addressing the matter to his liking, so he goes rogue, gets a bunch of tattoos and infiltrates the cult with the help of a member who escaped.

It sounds a little cheesy, but the cast is impressive, particularly the inclusion of Oscar winner Jamie Foxx (Ray). Mad Men’s January Jones and comedian Andrew Dice Clay (sure) also star.

Cassavetes, meanwhile, has an interesting filmography split between Cameron Diaz vehicles like My Sister’s Keeper, romance mainstays like The Notebook, and gritty crime dramas like Alpha Dog. “I am excited to get God Is A Bullet into production with my friend and producer/financer, Michael Mendelsohn,” the director said. “It’s a magnificent, ultra-dark work that is somehow both intensely frightening and literate, inspired by true events, with the most amazing cast of actors.”

It’s cool to see Coster-Waldau getting good gigs like this. He also has a Danish movie coming out called A Taste of Hunger. I’m just going to show you the poster and let you come to your own conclusions before telling you what it’s about:

Give up? It’s about a couple who run a gourmet restaurant determined to get a Michelin star at all costs. Makes sense in retrospect.
