Lots of fans would love it if the cast of the Harry Potter movies had a reunion. Rupert Grint (Ron Weasley) would do it, but only under one condition.
Harry Potter veteran Rupert Grint (Ron Weasley) has declared time and again he’s not too keen on returning to the Wizarding World that made him the name he is today. And, with eight films in the tank, you can understand why.
However, speaking to Esquire recently, the 32-year-old Servant star revealed the only way he could be coaxed into returning to the franchise would be if castmates like Daniel Radcliffe (Harry Potter) and Emma Watson (Hermione Granger) were also on board. “I think going back now would be — I can’t really imagine it,” he said. “But, I mean, never say never. It would only be if everyone else wants to do the same. But yeah, no — I think just leave it.”
"It was a very unique experience that we all went through. And no one really understands it and can relate to it but us. Almost kind of like astronauts. Kind of a weird experiment, I think."
Of the three, it’s hard not to call Grint the least active since the Potter days, which he admitted was almost by design. “I kind of peaked very early on, I think,” he said. “I wasn’t in a huge rush to do as many things as I could. And I think when I started doing a bit of theater, that’s when I got a bit of the love back.”
Grint also talked about his decision to speak out against J.K. Rowling’s derogatory comments regarding trans people, which caused a huge stir last year. “I firmly stand with the trans community,” Grint said in a statement last June. “Trans women are women. Trans men are men. We should all be entitled to live with love and without judgment.”
“I am hugely grateful everything that she’s done,” Grint told Esquire. “I think that she’s extremely talented, and I mean, clearly, her works are genius. But yeah, I think also you can have huge respect for someone and still disagree with things like that.”
"Sometimes silence is even louder. I felt like I had to because I think it was important to. I mean, I don’t want to talk about all that… Generally, I’m not an authority on the subject. Just out of kindness, and just respecting people. I think it’s a valuable group that I think needs standing up for."
Plenty of other Harry Potter alum have weighed in on the issue, both in support of Rowling and against her comments. They should have a lot to talk about if that reunion ever happens.
