Game of Thrones prequel House of the Dragon gets another writer

So far as writers rooms go, the one on Game of Thrones was fairly unusual. Most TV shows have a team of writers who bat ideas back and forth, with a showrunner finessing everything and making sure it all makes sense when it comes out the other end. On Game of Thrones, showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss pretty much took point on everything, with able assists from writers Bryan Cogman and Dave Hill.

HBO’s upcoming Game of Thrones prequel series House of the Dragon will have a more traditional writers room. Ryan Condal, the creator of sci-fi show Colony and an old buddy of George R.R. Martin’s, will serve as showrunner. The rank-and-file writing staff will include playwright Claire Kiechel, Colony writer Wes Tooke, and George R.R. Martin’s former writing assistant Ti Mikkel.

We also heard a while back that The 100 screenwriter Charmaine DeGraté may be joining the team as well. The other day, DeGraté made it official on her Twitter:

We also heard that historical fiction and fantasy novelist David Anthony Durham may be coming aboard, although that one is unconfirmed. Assuming he isn’t actually on the staff, that means the House of the Dragon writers room is majority female. That’s a change from Game of Thrones, where it was all male (Jane Espenson  and Vanessa Taylor worked on scripts in seasons 1 and 2 but weren’t part of the permanent room). The original show was sometimes criticized for the way it handled female characters, so it’s good to hear there will be some more perspective in the room.

House of the Dragon star gives us a sneak peak at a dragon?

Speaking of House of the Dragon, star Emma D’Arcy (Rhaenyra Targaryen) posted an intriguing doodle of a dragon to her Instagram Stories:

"Dragon art posted by Emma D’Arcy (as Rhaenyra Targaryen ) on her instagram story from HouseOfTheDragon"

Is this some very rough concept art for one the many dragons in House of the Dragon, or just a fun scribble? With filming set to begin in April, we may find out soon!
